The O.P.C.M.P. or the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
The saguaros were in bloom.
The Organ Pipes had just closed up their blooms.
The cholla was in bloom as well.
The Prickly Pear season was almost over.
The lanscape was inspiring and incredible as always!
Organ Pipe (Stenocereus thurberi)
Golden Hedgehog (Echinocereus nicholii)
Saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) Not sure about the "twists" in this one. Kind of looks like it was going crested and changed its mind.
Organ Pipe (Stenocereus thurberi monstrose) I never knew there was such a thing!
Young saguaro hiding from the world in a bush.
Young saguaro and Organ Pipe. |

Wow, it looks like another planet out there. Nice pictures. The stenocereus thurberi monstrose, just wow. _________________ even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! | I don't think it went much warmer than 100. Nice and cool. Yes, that Stenocereus thurberi monstrose shocked me too. I've never even heard of one before. |

| Yes, they're in bloom now too. The whole desert has the saguaro blooms everywhere at the moment. |

Thanks Joel for going where most of us can't go on a normal weekend!
Wonderful pictures!
I love the contrast between the chollas and their flowers.
That bouquet of saguaro flowers is just divine too!
And...crested organ pipe...who would of known!
Going for a rescue this weekend?
Take care,
Patrick |
