Florence Junction, Arizona
(Roadside Desert Scenes As Steve Biked Across Arizona - February 10-11, 2008)
 |
I arrived in Florence Junction, Arizona in the late
morning on a beautiful Sunday, and I think I will always remember this beautiful area east of
the Phoenix area for the rest of my life.
This was the first picture I snapped in this series. I stopped along
Highway 60 to capture this view of saguaros and powerlines. |
 |
Without getting into all the details,
I had a flat tire and unusual difficulty fixing it. Then, as if something
was working against me, I somehow looped the chain on my bike and unable to undo it,
leaving me unable to continue peddling eastward to Superior. |
 |
I was pretty much stranded out there. So in the two hours it took for my friend in Phoenix to rescue me and bring me back to Phoenix, I wandered about the beautiful desert and snapped these photos! ;) |
 |
A really beautiful cholla. |
 |
I know prickly pear cacti grow like wild and are often considered weeds by Arizona residents, but I still think they are pretty. |
 |
I will say, if there was ever a place to get stuck, Florence Junction, Arizona, with its mountain views and lush desert was the place to be! |
 |
Two saguaros. |

Myself posing while using the timer on my camera. |

Now this Arizona shot was taken on the next afternoon.
Here's what happened: I returned to Phoenix,
had the loop undone the next morning (which took the bike mechanic a couple of minutes to fix),
and then my friends Joel and Brandi drove me back to Florence Junction.
I only rode for 15 miles that afternoon to reach Superior, but I was so
happy to just be back on track. That next day, if I might brag, I rode 102 more miles and reached Safford. :) |
